2021 Volkswagen Tiguan vs 2021 Toyota RAV4: choose refinement

The Volkswagen Tiguan features more volume, unprecedented torque under the hood, renowned 4MOTION all-wheel drive and a crisp unique design. Four versions complete the 2021 range; Trendline, Comfrotline, I.Q Drive and Highline. Improvements inside and out make the Tiguan a serious contender at the front of the pack, like the Toyota RAV4. Here we put the two vehicles in a head-to-head comparison.

Part of the Volkswagen family, the Tiguan includes a warranty that covers the entire powertrain for 48 months or 80,000 km. This warranty lasts one year longer and 20,000 km longer than the Toyota RAV4. The Tiguan also takes the lead with two more years of puncture corrosion protection and an additional year of roadside assistance. This is excellent value for the money compared to the RAV4.

2021 Volkswagen Tiguan leads with better torque

Each Tiguan features a 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine that produces 184 horsepower and a robust 221 lb-ft of torque available at just 1,600 rpm. While the Tiguan is just short of the power of the RAV4 at 203 hp, the Tiguan overshadows the RAV4’s torque of 163 lb-ft. The responsiveness of the Tiguan gives all the character and acceleration needed on the road.

2021 Volkswagen Tiguan Offers More Interior Volume and Passenger Comfort

The Volkswagen Tiguan features the 4MOTION all-wheel drive system with separate drive modes for on-road and off-road fun. Snow mode adjusts the Tiguan to roll at a lower rev range to reduce the risk of slipping. The On-Road mode has three sub-modes. Sport, Eco and Comfort, which optimize handling and other functions.

Off-road mode adjusts the Tiguan to handle inclines and rough trails. Off-Road Custom adjusts throttle, steering, transmission and more for a unique driving experience. The RAV4 only offers three modes.

The Volkswagen Tiguan is longer compared to its predecessor and now offers more cargo volume. A rarity among SUVs in this segment, the Tiguan surpasses the RAV4 in cargo capacity by 104 liters. That’s big enough for extra luggage, camping gear, or whatever else you need on the road. The Tiguan is also available with seating for seven passengers, which is not offered in the RAV4.
