Everything you need to know about the 2022 Volkswagen Taos

The new 2022 Volkswagen Taos was revealed yesterday and has immediately garnered a lot of positive reactions and comments. Volkswagen’s latest SUV, the fourth in the lineup after the Atlas Cross Sport unveiled this year, will be the entry-level utility vehicle in the lineup.

That means that it is more affordable than the Volkswagen Tiguan, and also a bit smaller. That said, it’s still considered a compact SUV and designed for families or active buyers in need of space.

The 2022 Volkswagen Taos measures 4,466 mm which is about 24 centimeters less than the Tiguan. It offers 795 litres of cargo space with all seats in place and over 1,800 litres with the rear seats folded flat. Its passenger volume is rated at just 3,000 litres, just 45 litres less than the Tiguan. In other words, the new Taos is smaller, but it isn’t small.

Featuring an impressive interior layout that includes a standard digital instrument cluster, a first in the segment, the new 2022 Volkswagen Taos won’t be short on features. It will indeed offer a range of comfort and safety technologies including dual-zone climate control, heated and ventilated front seats, heated rear seats, and a heated steering wheel.

The list of available IQ.Drive safety technologies will also be impressive. Offered on the 2022 Taos are Forward Collision Warning with Autonomous Braking (Front Assist), Active Blind Spot Monitor, Lane Keeping System (Lane Assist), Adaptive Cruise Control with a Stop and Go feature. High Beam Control (Light Assist), the Adaptive Front-lighting System (AFS), and Park Distance Control.

“Taos joins our lineup at an ideal time,” said Pierre Boutin, President and CEO, Volkswagen Group Canada. “Taos offers Canadians all the style, technology, and drivability that Volkswagen is known for at a more affordable price than our popular Tiguan.”

The 2022 Taos will be powered by a 1.5-litre, turbocharged four-cylinder engine that delivers 158 horsepower and 184 pound-feet of torque. Torque matters most in a small SUV when it comes to getting around the city or passing on the highway, and the 2022 Taos will have plenty of it.

Pricing hasn’t been announced yet, but we know that the Taos will come in Trendline, Comfortline, and Highline versions when it launches in summer 2021. We promise to keep you posted when new details emerge on the new Volkswagen Taos.
